STAFF REPORT
TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager
DATE: August 5, 2021
RE: Canadian Days Engagement
ACTION REQUESTED:
None.
BACKGROUND
Park & Recreation Commissioners were at a booth on Saturday, July 31 at that annual Canadian
Days festival getting feedback on the proposed Pioneer Park Master Plan from the community.
The booth had four display boards; Project Overview, Youth Art Display, Improvements and
Evolution, and a Play Node concept board, a comment box, and some goodies to giveaway.
Attached is a picture of one of the display boards that asked for individuals to put a sticker on the
play feature or water feature they like. From the stickers collected on the board, there is a
majority of stickers on the water features indicating excitement and interest around a water
feature being added to the plan. Additionally, attached are some written comments that were in
the comment box.
Commissioners that volunteered at the booth are asked to share their findings of what they heard
from the community at the meeting on Thursday night. The comments from the Commissioners
and attachments will be shared with Bolton & Menk as they are preparing for the completion of
the Pioneer Park Master Plan. Additionally, the boards will be displayed in the lobby at City
Hall to inform the community about enhancement efforts at Pioneer Park and continue to gather
feedback that can be used as new features are being implemented.
Bolton & Menk will be presenting the Pioneer Park Master Plan at the City Council meeting on
Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Parks & Recreation Commissioners are welcome to attend.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Commission discuss the feedback that was received from the Canadian
Days engagement efforts.
