Natural Resources Goals and Policies <br /> <br />Goals: <br />1. Ensure that all development respects the natural aesthetics and environment of Little <br />Canada. <br />2. Increase overall health and quality of natural resources in Little Canada. <br />3. Develop and foster relationships with environmental groups and other government <br />agencies. <br />4. Collaborate with adjacent cities and townships regarding development of land adjacent to <br />Little Canada. <br /> <br />Policies: <br />1. Enforce federal and state regulations for development on wetlands and in floodplains. <br />2. Minimize development impacts to sensitive resources and minimize site alterations. <br />3. Continue to minimize stormwater runoff and mitigate its negative impacts on water quality. <br />4. Explore options to increase use of native plantings in development plans. <br />5. Protect current areas identified as ecologically significant. <br />6. Increase urban tree canopy and health of boulevard trees. <br />7. Increase public knowledge on importance of quality and health of natural resources. <br />8. Increase collaboration with the City’s watershed district, the County, and the City’s <br />conservation district. <br /> <br />Implementation Actions <br />1. Adopt and implement the updated Surface Water Management Plan which includes <br />measure to control erosion and to protect natural drainage ways. <br />2. Meet with the watershed district to identify future projects to increase water quality and <br />health in Little Canada. <br />3. Perform a study and inventory on urban trees in Little Canada to inform a future tree <br />preservation and protection ordinance. <br />4. Develop educational materials for dissemination to the public to increase private <br />stewardship. <br />5. Work with environmental groups including the watershed and conservation district to <br />define and identify ecologically significant areas in the City to inform future conservation <br />policies. <br />6. Protect the City’s access to solar energy and overall energy resilience through analysis of <br />current code. <br /> <br /> <br />City of Little Canada 4‐13 Natural Resources Plan
