<br /> <br /> STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director <br /> <br />DATE: February 23, 2022 <br /> <br />RE: Acceptance of a “Preparing for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)” Grant from the <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources <br /> <br /> <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion authorizing the acceptance of the Preparing for EAB Grant from the Minnesota <br />Department of Natural Resources <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Little Canada has been awarded the Preparing for Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Grant <br />from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $73,142.70. The State of <br />Minnesota Grant contract and details are attached. <br /> <br />The project funding will be used to assist the City with the EAB management including removal <br />and replacement of EAB infested trees in parks and on public properties, and along with Right- <br />of-Way (ROW) areas throughout the City, creating an inventory of ROW trees, and adopting an <br />EAB Management Plan. The City’s cash match for this grant is $21,943.30 and an In-Kind <br />match of $2,437.60. <br /> <br />This grant proposal is consistent with the City’s effort to combat EAB in the community and to <br />restore as many trees as possible that are affected by EAB. <br /> <br />BUDGETARY IMPACT <br />$67,500 has been budgeted for Emerald Ash Borer removals, replacements, and EAB <br />management in 2022 in the General Capital Improvement Fund (400). <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends accepting the Preparing for EAB Grant in the amount of $73,142.70 from the <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as presented. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />• State of Minnesota Grant Contract
