Grant for Legislatively-named Municipality FY19: Updated November 2018 8
Timeline
• Summer 2021 - Start EAB treatment on 62 ash trees
• Fall 2021 - Adopt EAB Management Plan
• Fall 2021 - Begin tree inventory
• Winter 2021 - Complete Tree Inventory
• Winter 2021-Spring 2022 - Begin removal of 50 infected non-treatable ash trees in city parks
• Spring 2022/Fall 2022 - Tree Planting
• Fall 2022 - MILESTONE - 25 trees planted to-date at public parks and public facilities
• Spring 2023 - Tree Planting
• Spring 2023 - MILESTONE - 50 trees planted to-date at public parks and public facilities
Project Budget Explanation
• The City is planning to provide more than the required 25% match, using in-kind funds in the form of
employee labor for communication materials and site preparation for new trees.
• Additionally, the City plans to budget for the treatment of 62 ash trees for the remaining life of those
trees in its General Fund.
Project Impacts on Priority Landscapes and Populations
According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's interactive environmental justice map, approximately
one-half of Little Canada is a qualified census tract (#421.01) which reports that at least 40% of people reported
income less than 185% of the federal poverty level. Funds from the grant will go to an entire city tree inventory
in public ROW, including low-income areas of Little Canada. This will help identify ash trees in diverse
populations throughout the City.
Communication
The City will use several different methods to communicate with its residents and the public. All of these
methods will be used to communicate and educate the public on EAB, the grant project, and how it will benefit
the community. Methods of communication will include:
• City Newsletter-Le Petit Candien: Informational articles published in the newsletter that is published
bimonthly and mailed to all residents, available online in both English and Spanish.
• City Website: The City will be creating an EAB page where information on the grant and EAB news and
updates will be available. Also, added to the City's News & Events section of the website that is sent to
subscribers in the community.
• City Social Media: Informational posts sent out on the City's Social Media platforms.
• City Meetings: Information and updates on EAB, grant, and project status at city meetings including,
Parks & Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and City Council meetings.
• Direct Mail: All residents will receive a direct mailing notifing that EAB is in Little Canada and
encourage treatment to help slow the spread of EAB. Residents will be given a discounted rate to treat
EAB.
DocuSign Envelope ID: A6BB40E1-E50C-4636-92B9-6ADDBF95AE69
