Staff Report

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk

DATE: December 11, 2015

RE: Appointments to Parks & Recreation Commission

The terms of office for Linda Fahey and Kong Vang will expire on December 31, 2015. Linda
has reached her term limits, and therefore cannot reapply, and Kong has chosen not to reapply.
Both vacancies are for three-year terms.

The City has received letters of interest from Tom Ray and Peter Schletty. Mr. Ray had applied
and was interviewed for the Parks & Recreation Commission a few months ago, but was not
chosen at that time.

The Parks & Recreation Commission Interview Committee consisted of Council Members Keis
and Montour, and the Parks & Recreation Director. The consensus of the Interview Committee
is that Tom Ray and Peter Schletty should be appointed to fill the two Commission vacancies.

Please also note that the updated Parks & Recreation Commission Ordinance calls for the Mayor
to make a recommendation for Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will make
that recommendation at Wednesday’s meeting, with the Council making the actual appointment.
The Commission will select their own Vice Chair at their first meeting in January.
