STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director
Sierra Hietala, Recreation Coordinator
DATE:July 7, 2022
RE:Rondeau Park Updates
ACTION REQUESTED
Informational Update. No action is requested.
PARK IMPROVEMENT UPDATES
The majority of the site work has been completed at Rondeau Park with new trails, sidewalks,
grading improvements, landscaping, and restoration completed. Staff does not have a timeline
for the installation of the picnic shelter due to global supply chain issues, but are hoping that it
can be shipped and installed this year. Benches, bike racks, a drinking fountain, and a new
basketball hoop are to be installed next. The playground area will see final grading just before
the community build. After the community build, the poured-in-place rubber surfacing will be
installed. Overall the project has been going as planned and is still on track for the park opening
in August.
COMMUNITY BUILD SUBCOMMITTEE
On Thursday, June 23, the Rondeau Park Subcommittee held its second meeting to prepare for
the upcoming community build on July 15 & 16. This committee includes Recreation
Coordinator, Sierra Hietala, Parks and Recreation Director, Bryce Shearen, and Parks and
Recreation Commission members Shawn Hipp, Michael Mui, and Peter Schletty.
The subcommittee handed out flyers to residents who reside near Rondeau Park. The July-
September newsletter includes a front-page article with a QR code to sign up to volunteer. Staff
will continue posting on social media to spread more awareness of the upcoming community
build. We currently have very few signups, so please help us spread the word and sign up if you
are available! Additionally, Staff designed and ordered volunteer t-shirts for all volunteers.
Thank you to Canadian Days for their generous monetary donation for the Rondeau Park
Community Build! The donations will assist in providing volunteers with food, drinks,
bathrooms, t-shirts, and more.
The subcommittee members have been busy handing out over 150 flyers, talking with local
businesses, and working on creating a successful event. The subcommittee members will provide
an update to the Parks & Recreation Commission at the meeting
ATTACHEMENTS
ď‚·Rondeau Park Community Build Flyer
