MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />JULY 7, 2022 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br />The Recreation Coordinator highlighted upcoming events and park programming opportunities. <br />She confirmed that there are scholarship opportunities available for programming activities for <br />those members of the community that need assistance. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mui stated that he had multiple residents approach him stating that they were <br />confused about where activities were occurring that were mentioned on the back of the <br />newsletter. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: DUGOUT COVERS AT PIONEER PARK <br />The Parks & Rec Director stated that there are a lot of infected ash trees at Pioneer Park that are <br />scheduled for removal, which will change the character of the park as it will remove a lot of <br />shade. He stated that staff previously reached out to LCRA to determine if they would be <br />interested in contributing to a project to cover the dugouts to provide some sort of shade for ball <br />players. He reported that LCRA recently met and approved an expenditure for dugout covers at <br />Pioneer Park. He stated that staff would recommend that the City accept the donation from <br />LCRA for this purpose. <br /> <br />Chair Miller stated that the Master Plan was developed to plan for the future of the park and <br />allow things to move quickly when the opportunity presents itself. <br /> <br />Commissioner Horwath commented that this will be a great addition to the park. <br /> <br />Horwath introduced the following motion: <br /> <br />RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL ACCEPT THE DONATION <br />FROM LCRA AND INSTALL THE DUGOUT COVERS AT PIONEER PARK <br /> <br /> The foregoing motion was duly seconded by Mui. <br /> Ayes (6). Nays (0). Motion passed. <br /> <br />Commissioner Chu asked when the dugout covers would be installed. <br /> <br />The Parks & Rec Director replied that the intent would be to complete the installation as soon as <br />possible. <br /> <br /> <br />REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS <br />Chair Miller thanked the members of the subcommittee for their work. <br /> <br />The Parks & Rec Director agreed that the subcommittee assisted in taking that burden off staff. <br /> <br /> <br />
