STAFF REPORT <br />TO:Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council <br />FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager <br />Corrin Wendell, Community Development Director <br />DATE:December 14, 2022 <br />RE:2023 Planning Commission Appointments <br />2023 Planning Commission Chair Appointment <br />Certificate of Appreciation for Valerie Quarles & Isaac Mitchell <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />A motion to appoint Taelor Johnson and Kari Boe-Schmidtz to 3-year terms from 2023-2025 and <br />Leif Masrud to complete a partial 2-year term from 2023-2024. <br />A motion to appoint a Planning Commission Chair in 2023. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The terms of office for Taelor Johnson and Valerie Quarles will expire on December 31, 2022. At <br />this time, there are two 3-year terms to fill, and the remaining 2-years of the seat vacated by Isaac <br />Mitchell, who moved out of the city. <br />The City has received a letter requesting reappointment from Taelor Johnson, and three new <br />a p p l i c a t i o n s were received from Leif Masrud, Kari Boe-Schmidtz and Ami Schneiderkoosman. <br />The three new applicants were interviewed by a Planning Commission Interview Committee <br />consisting of Mayor John Keis, Council Member Teresa Miller, Planning Commission Chair Chris <br />Kwapick and C o m m u n i t y D e v e l o p m e n t D i r e c t o r C o r r i n W e n d e l l . The interview committee was <br />pleased with all of the candidates. <br />Kari Boe-Schmidtz: Kari is a long-time resident of Little Canada, having been in the city over 10 <br />years. She works for Hennepin County and has been very involved in volunteering for the city in <br />different capacities such as the Gervais Lake Association, St. Paul Festival and Heritage <br />Foundation. She loves the community and is excited to lend her expertise to the Commission. <br />Leif Masrud: Leif is a resident of Little Canada for over the past few years and loves getting <br />outdoors in the community from trails to the lake and exploring the outside amenities. He works for <br />Urban Roots and is an advocate for communities to thrive. He will be a great asset to the <br />Commission. <br />Please also note that City Code Chapter 202, Planning Commission, calls for the Mayor to make a <br />recommendation for Planning Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will make that recommendation at
