COMMUNITY DEVELOPMEN T DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Department Overview <br />The Community Development Department provides direction and vision for the future economic and physical <br />growth of the City of Little Canada. The Planning Division carries out the objectives and policies of the <br />Comprehensive Plan to enhance the quality of life, facilitate orderly growth and development in the community <br />through zoning administration, land use application processing, and long-range planning. The Division also <br />provides quality customer service, technical information, permit processing, inspections, and code enforcement <br />to ensure compliance with State and local standards for livability and the integrity of the community and <br />surrounding area. <br /> <br />Our Mission <br />Our mission is to serve as a resource for residents and business owners in an effort to find solutions for their <br />property needs. Planning and Zoning is about creating opportunities that help guide the City, its neighborhoods, <br />and commercial components into a resilient future. <br /> <br />Service Areas <br />• Planning and Land Use • Economic Development • Building Permits <br />• Zoning Administration • Code Enforcement • Building Inspections <br />• Rental Housing Inspections <br />• Fire Inspections <br />• Comprehensive Plan <br />Implementation <br />• Staff liaison to Planning <br />Commission <br /> <br />2022 Departmental Accomplishments <br />• Successful completion of 20 Planning Cases. <br />• Successful progress on 10 development projects including the 3000 Labore residential development, <br />RCU Bank development, Lennar townhome residential development, Twin Lake Blvd multi-family <br />development, Villas at Gervais Lake residential development, S Owasso and Spruce industrial <br />development and the Vision Loss Resources industrial remodel. <br />• Metropolitan Council Pre-Development Grant submitted for 2075 Rice Street. <br />• Conducted two Neighborhood Meetings. <br />• Two Development Agreements drafted and executed. <br />• Zoning Map Update successfully adopted. <br />• Code Enforcement and Outdoor Storage Licensing inspections successfully completed. <br />• Fire Inspections successfully completed. <br />• Planning Commission successfully met and reviewed land use applications and made recommendations <br />to the City Council. <br />• Managed Sign Committee which commenced and met several times to determine quantity, placement, <br />and cost for new Monument and post signs for the City’s Capital Improvement Program. <br />• Participated in the Metropolitan Council Transit Planning Group, Ramsey County Economic Development <br />Summits, and American Planning Association National Planning Conference (presenter). <br /> <br />2023 Departmental Goals <br />• Hire Community Development Intern for summer 2023 to assist with departmental needs <br />• Apply for Met Council, Ramsey County, and MN DEED grants for upcoming developments <br /> <br />Budgetary Commentary <br />Planning Budget – The budget is increasing slightly to accommodate for on-going needs. <br /> <br />49
