EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA <br />•Demonstrates considerable ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with city personnel, general public and <br />contractors. <br />•Skilled in applying judgment and discretion in addressing issues, problems and concerns raised by the <br />public. <br />•Familiarity with building codes, ordinances, city code, and procedures to provide accurate and timely <br />response to inquiries and to minimize time spent by supervisor on routine inquiries. <br />•Familiarity with the computer to perform work functions quickly and accurately. <br />•Work priorities are independently maintained so that seasonal and periodic rush work assignments are <br />effectively and efficiently met. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES <br />•Demonstrated proficiency with office skills and procedures, including use of word processing, <br />spreadsheet programs and file maintenance. <br />•Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees, citizens, <br />contractors, and developers. <br />•Ability to work with speed and accuracy in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work responsibilities and <br />effectively utilize time. <br />•Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. <br />•Thorough knowledge of building codes, ordinances, zoning regulations, legal descriptions, and <br />plan review techniques. <br />•Knowledge of the principles of drafting and architecture. <br />•Ability to use architectural and engineering scales and perform accurate mathematical equations. <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />•High school diploma or equivalent <br />•One year of experience processing permits for building, fire, engineering and housing maintenance <br />divisions using automated permit system. <br />•Knowledge of city and state regulations related to building, housing, zoning, and rental licensing codes. <br />•Two years of related office experience. One year of post high school administrative education may be <br />substituted for one year of clerical experience. <br />DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />•Permit Technician Certification. <br />•Experience in service-oriented position in a municipal building inspection or substantially similar <br />environment. <br />•Two years of experience processing permits for building, fire and housing maintenance divisions using <br />automated permit system. <br />PERMIT TECHNICIAN PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Physical Activities <br />Very Frequent (Often required to perform the job) <br />•Standing <br />•Sitting <br />•Walking <br />•Lifting <br />•Pushing/Pulling <br />60 of 63
