1 <br />2023 FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACT <br />CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada is authorized by law to provide fire protection for <br />all of the property in said City, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Little Canada Fire Department, Incorporated, is a volunteer fire <br />department, operating as a non-profit association under the laws of the State of Minnesota and <br />owns certain fire equipment, trucks, etc., for fighting fires, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Little Canada, hereinafter referred to as the City, and <br />the Little Canada Fire Department, Incorporated, hereinafter referred to as the Fire Department, <br />in consideration of the following provisions and covenants, do hereby enter into this contract and <br />agreement on the day and date hereunto subscribed. <br /> <br /> 1. The City hereby engages the services of the Fire Department to answer fire calls <br />and to provide fire protection to public and private property, within the City of Little Canada <br />commencing January 1, 2023 and terminating December 31, 2023. <br /> <br /> 2. The Fire Department agrees to answer all calls for service directed to it by the <br />Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center for assistance within the legal limits of the <br />City including calls involving accidents with injury requiring emergency medical responders. <br /> <br /> 3. The Fire Department will provide Awareness level services for hazardous <br />materials incidents. Hazardous materials services beyond awareness level will be provided by <br />the State of Minnesota. <br /> <br /> 4. The City agrees to pay to the Fire Department for its services during the period <br />above specified, and the Fire Department agrees to accept for its services during the said period. <br />Payments shall be made on the following basis: <br />a. $428,000 shall be paid in quarterly installments. The City will issue the first <br />quarterly payment immediately following the first City Council meeting of the contract <br />year. Subsequent quarterly payments will be issued following the Council meetings <br />immediately prior to April 1, July 1, and October 1. <br />b. $35,190 or the “required contribution” as calculated pursuant to statutory <br />requirements for deficit retirement associated with the fire relief association, whichever is <br />greater, shall also be paid in quarterly installments for Little Canada Fire Relief funding. <br />This contribution will be increased on an annual basis according to the Cost of Living <br />Adjustment (COLA) increase for staff based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). <br />c. Within 30 days of receipt, the City shall remit to the Fire Department a lump sum <br />payment in the same amount of Fire State Aid received from the State of Minnesota. <br /> <br />
