STAFF REPORT <br />TO:Parks & Recreation Commission <br />FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director <br />DATE:December 1, 2023 <br />RE:Commissioner Terms and Reappointment Process <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />For information purposes only. No action is requested. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The second term for Commissioners Rose Chu and Ron Horwath are expiring December 31, <br />2022. Commissioner Horwath has requested to be reappointed. Commission Chair Miller has <br />been elected to the City Council and will need to vacate his position on the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission at the end of the year. <br />With the above changes, there will be one open seat for a three-year term and one open seat to <br />fill the last year of Chair Millers' term. <br />Currently, one application has been received and staff will be interviewing before December 9. <br />The interview committee will be Parks & Recreation Director, Parks & Recreation Commission <br />Chair, Mayor, and one City Council Member. <br />After the interviews have been completed, the interview committee will make a recommendation <br />to the City Council for appointments that will be acted on at the December 14, 2022, City <br />Council meeting. Additionally, the Parks & Recreation Commission Ordinance calls for the <br />Mayor to make a recommendation for the Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. The Mayor <br />will make that recommendation at that December meeting, with the Council making the actual <br />appointment. The Commission will select a Vice-Chair at the first meeting in January. <br />TIMELINE <br />Timeline for 2023 Appointments Process: <br />November 28 – December 8 Interview with new applicants with Committee* <br />December 9 Staff report to City Council with recommendations for <br />Commission appointments <br />December 14 City Council meeting for official Commissioner <br />appointments and appointment of Commissioner Chair <br />by City Council <br />January 5 Parks & Recreation Commission appoints a Vice-Chair
