STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director
DATE:January 5, 2023
RE:Sidewalks and Trails Map
ACTION REQUESTED
None.
BACKGROUND
Identified in the City’s 2022 Strategic Plan was to review and identify gaps and update the
pedestrian trail/sidewalk map. This action is under the strategic direction of:
Maximizing our Assets to Catalyze Development - The City is attempting to continuously
keep the community vital and a great place to live. Efforts in development,
redevelopment, housing, and amenities help keep the City economically healthy and
attractive. Efforts are aimed at replacing blight with development, increasing housing
opportunities, and adding to public amenities.
The Strategic Plan also identifies that “Little Canada has an enhanced internal and external trail
system” as a key amenity.
The existing Sidewalks and Trails map was updated in 2018 and since then new sidewalks have
been added to the community, and new trails have been identified to be added. Before bringing
changes forward for approval, staff would like the City’s Parks & Recreation Commission and
Planning Commission to review the map and see if there are additional gaps or updates that they
would like to recommend.
Staff has provided the existing sidewalks and trails map, an example of some areas that already
need to be updated, and examples of other city maps for the Commission to review.
Once the document has been reviewed by the commissions and adopted by the City Council, it
can be used for future planning, development, and potential grant funds that may be available.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Commission review the map and bring forward any recommending
changes to the February Parks & Recreation Commission meeting.
ATTACHMENTS
Current Sidewalks and Trails Map
DRAFT changes to Sidewalks and Trail Map
Example of other community Sidewalks and Trails Map
