STAFF REPORT <br />1 <br />TO:Parks & Recreation Commission <br />FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director <br />Eric Seaburg, P.E., City Engineer <br />DATE:March 2, 2023 <br />RE:Easement Acquisition for Proposed Trail Extension at Allen Avenue & Desoto Street <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />The Parks & Recreation Commission is asked to consider the proposed easement acquisition and <br />provide a Motion to recommend moving forward with the easement acquisition process to the City <br />Council. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The upcoming Pioneer Commons Development located between Desoto Street, Vanderbie Street, <br />Allen Avenue, and County Road D will bring approximately 178 new townhomes to the area. <br />Through the approval process, City staff worked with the developer to include a public trail system <br />within the development that will eventually act as an extension of the Thunder Bay / Westwinds Park <br />linear trail system. Additionally, the developer is extending a new trail from the southwest corner of <br />the development to Allen Avenue.
