No action is requested.
BACKGROUND
Events
Arbor Day: City staff has reached out to local schools to invite 3rd and 4th-grade classes to our
Arbor Day celebration on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. This year AFSA, Little Canada
Elementary, and St. John’s will meet in Spooner Park near the lower shelter for the festivities,
which include a word from the mayor and Parks and Recreation staff, a few songs from the
students, a tree planting, and refreshments afterward. Students will be planting four trees in
Spooner Park near the lower shelter area. Recently, many diseased ash trees were removed from
this area and these new trees will be a welcomed addition to help add trees back to the park.
Commissioners are welcome to attend.
Little Canada 5K Sap Run: Staff continues to plan and prepare the Sap Run which is on
Saturday, May 6. Participants will enjoy a 5K around scenic Lake Gervais. Each participant will
receive a Sap Run t-shirt, goodie bag, and have their name put into multiple gift card drawings.
We currently have 152 participants signed up (as of 4/30), and a goal of 150 participants in the
Sap Run. Larger events like these require volunteers to be successful. There are volunteer
opportunities for Parks & Recreation Commissioners for registration and awards, entrance
attendants, parking attendants, photographers, and a course marshal and water table. Contact
Sierra or scan the QR code if you are interested in volunteering.
Farmers Market: The Farmers Market will take place Mondays from 2-6 June 12-October 9 at
2920 Rice Street. We have received two vendor applications from returning vendors (Svihel
Produce, and the Wisconsin Cheese Outlet). Staff will continue to reach out to both returning
vendors, and possible new vendors for the upcoming season. We look forward to continuing to
provide SNAP/EBT at the Markets, and the Power of Produce Club for youth ages 4-12.
City-Wide Garage Sale: The annual City-Wide Garage Sale will take place from Thursday, May
18, until Saturday, May 20. It is free to register for a sale, and participants can take advantage of
