MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />JUNE 1, 2023 <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the City Council of Little Canada, <br />Minnesota was convened on the 1st day of June, 2023 in the Council Chambers of the City <br />Center located at 515 Little Canada Road in said City. <br /> <br />Chair Howarth called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. and the following members of the Parks <br />& Recreation Commission were present at roll call: <br /> <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION: Abruzzese, Hipp, Horwath, Mui, Williams, and <br />Youth Commissioner Churcher. <br /> <br />ABSENT: DeLong Miller and Schletty <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Parks & Rec/Community Services Director Bryce Shearen and Recreation <br />Coordinator Sierra Hietala. <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />Commissioner Hipp made a motion to approve the May 4, 2023 Parks & Recreation Commission <br />minutes as submitted. Commissioner Williams seconded the motion. The motion was <br />unanimously approved. <br /> <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: PIONEER PARK UPDATE <br />The Parks & Rec Director provided an update on the project, noting that staff checks in with the <br />contractor each week and the majority of the construction is anticipated to be complete by <br />August 31st. He asked if the Commission would be interested in conducting a park tour of <br />Pioneer Park prior to the July meeting. <br /> <br />A consensus of the Commission agreed to hold a park tour at Pioneer Park prior to the July <br />meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS: POLLINATOR HABITAT UPDATE <br />The Parks & Rec Director provided background information on the Thunder Bay Park pollinator <br />project focusing on the preparation work that began in 2021 and additional work that occurred in <br />2022. He stated that work would continue in 2023 and 2024. He provided details on the <br />educational signage that is being used to spread awareness to the public. He commented that the <br />area looks fantastic and the project is going well. He provided details on the experts from U.S. <br />Fish and Wildlife and Great River Greening that have been assisting with the project. <br />
