MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 7, 1994
into the night. The Director stated that only adult leagues
could play into the night. He stated that Pioneer Park was
designed so that lighting could be added in the future. The
Director felt that the addition of lighting could help to
alleviate the parking problem to some degree.
Holm felt that gates should be added at the park entrances
to discourage people from entering at night. The Director
stated that gates were located at Spooner Park, but they
were eventually removed since the police could not patrol
into the park and someone had to lock and unlock them every
day. Hartmann felt that the gates would be added
maintenance and they would not keep people out. Wehrle also
felt that gates would be a public safety problem since the
police could not access the park.
Remerowski asked about looking into State funding for a
"Park and Ride" at Pioneer Park. Holm stated that he has
noticed a few cars parking there that he feels have been
riding the bus. The Director stated that MTC is not
interested in that location since it is not on their route
and they have a "Park and Ride" on Little Canada
Road/McMenemy Road. Remerowski suggested placing a
questionnaire on the cars at Pioneer Park to see if they use
the bus.
Hartmann felt that lighting the trails was not a priority.
However, he felt the Commission could consider lighting the
parks.
Greger stated that he had the portable toilet screening and
lighting the Pioneer Park tennis courts as his two top
choices.
Remerowski felt that the tree
#1 since the City would have
is received. He thought that
received, the portable toilet
Wehrle agreed stating that if
would be a must that the City
grant matching funds should be
~o match the funds if the grant
if the tree grant is not
screening should be #1.
we get the tree grant, it
match the funds.
Hartmann asked if the tennis courts at Spooner Park are used
much at night. The Director stated that they are not used
enough to warrant lighting another set at this time.
Hartmann felt that the lighting of the Pioneer Park tennis
courts was not an emergency right now. Holm commented that
the courts at Pioneer Park have been used more this year
than last year.
Wehrle stated that he had #1 as the tree grant and #2 as the
screening of the portable toilets.
-6-
