MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 7, 1994
baseball players use one batting machine and the softball
players use the other. The Director stated that he has not
heard many complaints on teams not being able to use the
batting cage. Remerowski stated that he would like to see
the chain link fence batting cage purchased with a building
to house the pitching machine in, but it cannot be done now
since the funds are not available. The Director felt that
it could be placed next to the basketball court in Pioneer
Park. Wehrle felt that item would not be purchased under
the 10% fund due to the high cost. Remerowski stated that
he would like North Suburban Youth Association to fund it
possibly over two or three years.
Wehrle felt that lighting of the City trails should be
removed from the 10% list at this time.
Remerowski asked how much it would cost to light the Pioneer
Park tennis courts. Wehrle stated approximately $7,500 for
two lights.
Remerowski felt that two different types of batting cages
should be considered at $2,000 and $15,000. Wehrle stated
that they could be listed as portable and permanent cages.
Wehrle felt that lighting of the ball fields should be
funded through the General Fund since they would be so
expensive to light.
Wehrle asked Commission members to prioritize the list for
the meeting in August.
The Director commented that Public Works will be placing a
sand base in the volleyball court at Pioneer Park. He
stated that the court gets a lot of use.
UPDATE ON The Director stated that there will be a bid opening on
TRAILS July 22, 1994 for the trails at Pioneer and Westwind Parks.
Wehrle stated that there are still a few items to be done on
the Water Works trail before final approval. He felt the
contractor should be done by the end of the month.
-8-
