STAFF <br />REPORT <br />TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council <br />FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator <br />Laura Linehan, Community Relations Manager <br />DATE: February 28, 2024 <br />RE:Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />This provides informational background about the scheduled training with the League of <br />Minnesota Cities; no action is required. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City of Little Canada has been working with the League of Minnesota Cities to host an <br />introduction to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training with the City Council and the city <br />leadership team at the February 28 City Council Workshop. The February 28 training aims to <br />meet staff and elected officials where they are at in understanding the fundamentals of DEI as the <br />city works to build an internal and external program. <br />At the February 14 City Council Workshop, staff provided an overview of DEI, including <br />background on the city’s initiatives, city demographic data, initial training plans for the <br />organization, and discussed potential next steps. <br />TRAINING OVERVIEW <br />The training will be led by League of Minnesota Cities staff members Adriana Temail (Learning <br />Manager) and Arianna Bloom (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator) and will provide an <br />introduction to DEI principles. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: <br />No budget impact at this time. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE: <br />Enhancing identity and empowering community: <br />Action Item <br />o Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Initiative
