STAFF <br />REPORT <br />TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council <br />FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator <br />Laura Linehan, Community Relations Manager <br />DATE: April 10, 2024 <br />RE:Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Next Steps <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />While no formal action is requested, staff will be presenting potential next steps and will be <br />requesting initial feedback from the City Council. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Since November 2023, the City of Little Canada has been working with the League of Minnesota <br />Cities to build a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative, as outlined within the City of Little <br />Canada 2022 Strategic Plan. <br />At the February 14 City Council Workshop, staff provided an overview of DEI, including <br />background on the city’s initiatives, city demographic data, initial training plans for the <br />organization, and potential next steps. <br />On February 28, the City Council and Leadership Team participated in an introductory diversity, <br />equity, and inclusion (DEI) training with the League of Minnesota Cities. On March 4, all staff <br />participated in a similar training. <br />NEXT STEPS <br />As initial DEI training has been completed, city staff is proposing the next steps for the City <br />Council’s consideration. A brief presentation, including sample work in other metro-area cities, <br />proposed internal and external steps, and potential future planning, will be presented for <br />feedback. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: <br />No budget impact at this time. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE: <br />Enhancing identity and empowering community:
