STAFF REPORT <br />TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council <br />FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator <br />Laura Linehan, Community Relations Manager <br />DATE: April 10, 2024 <br />RE:CliftonStrengths Introduction <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />No formal action is requested, for information and background only. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In working to ensure employees are appreciated and that Little Canada is an employer of choice, all <br />employees are in the process of completing CliftonStrengths assessments with an all-staff training on <br />April 22 from noon to 3:30 PM led by Melinda Coleman, retired City Manager for the City of <br />Maplewood and certified CliftonStrengths coach. <br />CliftonStrengths will allow city staff to focus on individual employee strengths to aid in personal <br />development and enhance our organization’s performance. Organizations with a strengths-based <br />culture succeed because: <br />They engage their employees <br />They select managers who coach their employees to bring their best selves to work <br />They provide an exceptional employee and customer experience <br />ASSESSMENT AND TRAINING: <br />Staff are currently completing the online assessment. Staff will receive a report that outlines their <br />individual top five dominant out of 34 talent themes. These themes are additionally placed into four <br />domains that describe how individuals execute, influence others, build relationships, and absorb and <br />think about information. <br />Results from each individual staff member will be charted into a grid and provided in advance of the <br />April 22 all-staff training. Mrs. Coleman will then utilize our organization's results and provide custom <br />training that will articulate the themes, domains, and how individuals can best utilize their strengths, <br />and work with coworkers with different strengths. <br />BUDGET IMPACT: <br />Approximately $2,600 for all staff training and individual assessments. Additional costs may be <br />incurred in the future based on new hires, and additional training.
