<br /> <br /> STAFF REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Chris Heineman, City Administrator <br /> Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager <br /> <br />DATE: June 24, 2024 <br /> <br />RE: Rental of 2828 Condit Street <br /> <br /> <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED <br />Consider approval of the lease agreement to be used for rental of the single-family home at 2828 <br />Condit Street. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The city purchased the property at 2828 Condit Street in April 2024 in preparation for future <br />redevelopment of this site, along with several adjacent properties that the city has been assembling for <br />many years. Since it will be two or more years before any potential redevelopment could occur, <br />Council discussed renting the home at the June 12 Workshop and was agreeable to staff moving <br />forward with a rental process and drafting a lease agreement. Renting the property long-term would <br />allow the city to bring in revenue, along with not leaving the home vacant to potentially attract <br />problems for the neighborhood. <br /> <br />City staff will manage the rental and screening process for potential tenants and conduct credit and <br />criminal background checks. <br /> <br />Staff has drafted a lease agreement with the following basic lease terms: <br />• Security deposit of first and last month's rent <br />• $1,900 per month rent <br />• Tennant responsible for all public and private utility expenses <br />• Due to the large size of the property, city staff would remain responsible for mowing and <br />plowing of the driveway from the street up to the garage/parking area <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve renting the residential property at 2828 Condit Street and authorize the City Administrator to <br />sign the lease agreement. <br />
