Anticipated closing
date of federal grant
opportunity.
Include actual due
date of federal grant
application, if
known. If not
known, including
estimated date and
“(estimated).”:
6/17/2024
Mitigate the
impacts of climate
change in reducing
emissions or
improving
infrastructure
resiliency.:
The project will alleviate congestion by
replacing an uncontrolled intersection with two
roundabouts at CR 23, Lakeshore Avenue, and
County Drive. Roundabouts will add capacity
to the intersection, reducing vehicle idling from
queuing. The proposed pedestrian bridge over
I-35E will encourage non-motorized
transportation, reducing VMT and emissions.
The enhancements will upgrade the project
area to be more resilient, and construction
efforts will use recycled concrete aggregate
where possible.
Provide benefit to
areas of persistent
poverty or
historically
disadvantaged
communities.:
Today, the City of Little Canada is divided in
half by I-35E, separating residents from core
commercial areas, job centers, parks, and
recreational amenities. The proposed project
will benefit residents and neighboring
communities around Little Canada by
constructing a pedestrian bridge over I-35E and
improving intersection safety at CR 23,
Lakeshore Avenue, and County Drive. This is
vital as the project area is near two
manufactured home parks and borders a
persistent poverty census tract.
Improve safety for
all users.:
The proposed roundabout is expected to reduce
crashes at the County Drive intersection by
over 48% and injury crashes by over 52% and
will eliminate dangerous left turns and right-
angle crashes. Pedestrian safety will also be
improved with ADA upgrades, a dedicated
sidewalk, and the proposed pedestrian bridge.
Relocation of the Little Canada Road/Country
Drive intersection 500 feet west and conversion
to a roundabout will decrease the number of
conflict points and reduce driver confusion.
