She explained the dispatchers wished they had more and different types of tools to <br />use for certain calls since not all emergencies are best addressed by only a police officer or fire <br />department. She stated that now when a call comes in to 911, the emergency communications <br />center dispatches the call to either a community response team, traditional response (law <br />enforcement, fire or medical services) or to an embedded social worker who will triage the call and <br />determine if the caller needs public health or mental health crisis responses. Sometimes the <br />response needed is a combination of any of these responders. The ARI representative explained <br />there are currently three public health responders and an additional three will be hired to support <br />efforts across Ramsey County.
