COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />Department Overview <br />The Community Development Department provides direction and vision for the future economic and physical <br />growth of the City of Little Canada. The Department carries out the objectives and policies of the <br />Comprehensive Plan to enhance the quality of life, facilitate orderly growth and development in the community <br />through zoning administration, land use application processing, and long-range planning. The Department also <br />provides quality customer service, technical information, permit processing, inspections, and code enforcement <br />to ensure compliance with State and local standards for livability and the integrity of the community and <br />surrounding area while enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. <br /> <br />Our Mission <br />Our mission is to serve as a resource for residents and business owners in an effort to find solutions for their <br />property needs. Planning and Zoning is about creating equitable opportunities that help guide the City, its <br />neighborhoods, and commercial components into a resilient future. <br /> <br />Service Areas <br /> Planning and Land Use  Economic Development  Building Permits <br /> Zoning Administration  Code Enforcement  Building Inspections <br /> Rental Housing Inspections <br /> Fire Inspections <br /> Comprehensive Plan <br />Implementation <br /> Staff liaison to Planning <br />Commission <br /> <br />2023/2024 Departmental Accomplishments <br /> Successful completion of 16 Planning Cases. <br /> Successful newsletter Development Updates articles written each quarter. <br /> Successful progress and some completion on development projects including the Gervais Woods 2 nd <br />Addition residential development, RCU Bank development, Pioneer Commons 1 st, 2nd and 3rd Addition <br />Lennar townhome residential development, Twin Lake Blvd multi-family apartments (LICA and LITMORE) <br />development, Villas at Gervais Lake residential development, Rice and Demont Apartment development, <br />Affordable Senior Housing development on County Rd B E, S Owasso and Spruce industrial development <br />and the Vision Loss Resources industrial remodel. <br /> Successful completion of 10 Zoning Verification Letters. <br /> Metropolitan Council LCA and TOD grants submitted for Senior Affordable Apartments and Rice and <br />Demont Apartments. <br /> Conducted two Neighborhood Meetings. <br /> Three Development Agreements drafted and executed. <br /> Business Retention and Expansion visits completed. <br /> Successful launching of permitting software OpenGov. <br /> Successful demolition of the vacant former Pawn Shop and A&W buildings. <br /> Code Enforcement and Outdoor Storage Licensing inspections successfully completed. <br /> Fire Inspections successfully completed. <br /> Planning Commission successfully met and reviewed land use applications and made recommendations <br />to the City Council. <br /> Successful planning of the Kids Can Build and Adventures in Planning youth programs in the fall in <br />coordination with the Park and Recreation Department. <br /> Volunteered for the annual Sap Run 5K and Canadian Days events as well as providing childcare for the <br />Community Playground build at Rondeau Park. <br /> <br />51
