J/e nercuriter
DIV. T. U. I., INC.
310 N. SNELLING AVE., ST. PAUL, MINN. 55104
(612) 646-8836
Sept. 14, 1977
City Council Re: Restaurant at 235 E. Little Canada Rd.
City of Little Canada Little Canada, Minn
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
I, William Westerhoff, , am the owner of the restaurant facility
located at 235 E. Little Canada Rd.
This restaurant has been operated under 4 different names and
has experienced A bankruptcies under each of those names. I
am the 5th operator (and owner) of this restaurant and have no
intention of allowing myself to be the 5th bankruptcy.
I am firmly convinced that among other things, the restaurant
is very poorly signed and as a direct result has not experienced
the business it should have experienced. The sign is too small
to be easily read from the highway (E-35) and is not high
enough so that it can be read due to the surrounding terrain.
My intent is to erect a sign not to exceed 60' on the sight
of the present sign with a sign face area not to exceed the
code limits. This will allow a readable message from a great
enough distance on both the northbound and southbound lanes of
the freeway (E-35) enabling travelers to turn off on the exits
to Little Canada Road.
Because the requested height exceed the limits as established
by the City of Little Canada, I am requesting this variance.
I feel it is absolutely necessary for the prosperity of the
restaurant, it was agreed to by the the planning commission
of Little Canada (unanimously) , and the request is within
reason in view of the variances already given to both Texaco
and Mobil for their signs in the same general location on
Little Canada Road.
Many thanks for your consideration, I remain,
William Westerhoff
CLERK'S EXHIBIT NO. 1 2 31
MEETING-9-14-?7
