Staff has recently been in discussion with the property owner
and his potential willingness to sell the property to the City. Staff is currently working on
obtaining an appraisal for the property.
Since there appears to be a willingness from the property owner to sell, staff has been working
on what the potential space could be used for if acquired. Identified in the City’s Comprehensive
Plan, Parks System Master Plan, Pioneer Park Phase I Master Plan, and Strategic Plan are
multiple areas discussing developing a high-quality building facility to meet the needs of the
community. For example, one of the specific recommendations from the Park System Master
Plan is:
1.5.2. Explore the development of a multi-purpose park building that can be used as an
educational/ programming facility that contributes to strengthening the community's
visual character.
While this is still in the infant stage, staff wanted to present some preliminary designs of the
potential area to the Parks & Recreation Commission to get some initial feedback on the
potential designs. Attached are four potential preliminary designs that could work within the
space if acquired.
