STAFF REPORT
TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Sierra Hietala, Recreation Coordinator
DATE:October 5, 2023
RE:Recreation Update
ACTION REQUESTED
Informational Update. No action is requested.
BACKGROUND
Events
Movies in the Park: Due to an unexpected thunder
and lightning storm, the original night of Movies
in the Park was rescheduled to Thursday,
September 21. This was hosted at the Spooner
Park Amphitheater and played The Super Mario
Bros. Movie. Mr. Egg Roll was in attendance
with their fantastic lineup of food, and staff ran
the concession stand. We had around 75+ people
in attendance. Unfortunately, due to a technology
issue, the movie did not have sound so we had to
cancel. The screen rental company said they
would comp our next movie event, which will be
the night of the next Ice Cream Social.
Thank you to our Movies in the Park sponsor, Arko Companies. They will remain the sponsor
for our next Movies in the Park event.
Explore Little Canada:
From September 12 - October 3 staff highlight trails at
Blacktern Pond/S. Owasso, Gervais Mill, the Rondeau
Park/Waterworks Trail, and Thunder Bay/Westwinds
Trail. Each walk includes fall phenology (facts about the
changing of the seasons) about things that can be seen
from that specific trail, as well as the history and current
events of the area. The trails included a password and a
QR code to submit the weekly passwords to. Staff
contacted the participants who visited at least two trails
for an Explore Little Canada sticker. Overall staff received very positive feedback about Explore
Little Canada and looks forward to continuing this again next year.
Little Canada Geocache Exploration: Visit our parks, find the caches, and win a fun prize!
