STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Steven Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE:July 11, 2024
RE:Discussion of a Volleyball Court in the Parks System
ACTION REQUESTED
Discuss adding a volleyball court to the Parks and Recreation system.
BACKGROUND
At the June 6, 2024 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, staff inquired on the feasibility
of adding a volleyball court to the Parks and Recreation system. The Commission had some good
discussion on the type of court, location and history of the previous court at Pioneer Park. The
Commission liked the idea of a turf or grass court rather than a sand court. The previous sand
court did not see much use. Ultimately, it was requested by the commission to have further
discussion on the need for a volleyball court in the parks system.
In the Pioneer Park Phase 1 Master Plan, providing a grass area for users to come play volleyball
was listed under amenities & enhancements. It was considered a priority 2 improvement. No
estimated cost was provided as there would be no cost involved, outside of maintaining the grass.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Commission discuss and provide feedback on the need for a volleyball
court in the Parks and Recreation System.
