Page 916-1 <br />CHAPTER 916 SIGNS <br />916.010 Purpose ..............................................................................................................916-1 <br />916.020 Permitted and Prohibited Signs ........................................................................916-1 <br />916.030 General Provisions ............................................................................................916-3 <br />916.040 Non-Conforming Signs ......................................................................................916-7 <br />916.050 District Regulations ...........................................................................................916-8 <br />916.060 Fees, License, and Permits ..............................................................................916-11 <br />916.070 Waiver of Requirements as to Locations Signs ...............................................916-11 <br />916.080 Severability .....................................................................................................916-11 <br />916.010 Purpose <br />This section is established to protect and promote health, safety, general welfare and order <br />within the City of Little Canada through the establishment of a comprehensive and <br />impartial set of standards, regulations and procedures governing the type, numbers, size, <br />structure, location, height, lighting, erection, use and/or display of devices, signs or <br />symbols serving as a visual communication media to persons situated within or upon public <br />rights-of-way or properties. <br />The provisions of this subdivision are intended to encourage opportunity for effective, <br />orderly communication by reducing confusion and hazards resulting from unnecessary <br />and/or indiscriminate use of communication facilities, as well as to provide adequate <br />opportunity for travelers to find their way through the community, and to specific points <br />within the community. Such hazards result in unsafe traffic conditions, including threats to <br />vehicular and pedestrian travelers. The regulations herein have been narrowly tailored to <br />meet these purposes. <br />916.020 Permitted and Prohibited Signs <br />For each type of commercial message permitted by the regulations in Chapter 916, a non- <br />commercial message may substitute which complies with all of the size, location, and other <br />applicable performance standards of the Chapter. <br />1.Permitted Signs. <br />The following signs are allowed without a permit, license, or fee, but shall comply with <br />all other applicable provisions of this Chapter: <br />a. Public Signs. <br />b. Identification Signs. There may be one per premise, not to exceed two (2) square <br />feet in area. If the sign is freestanding, the total height may not exceed 5 feet. <br />c. Integral Signs. Signs that are designed to be an integral part of the overall sign. <br />d. Political Campaign Signs. Such signs shall not exceed eight (8) square feet in all <br />Residential Districts, or 16 square feet in all other zoning districts. During the <br />period 46 days before the state primary in a state general election year to 10 days <br />following such general election, non-commercial signs of any size may be posted <br />in any number, in accordance with Minn. Statute.
