MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />MAY 2, 2024 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />The Public Works Director provided an update on the work the contractors are completing at <br />Pioneer, noting that the work on the water feature should begin in the next few weeks. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath asked for an update on a trail project. <br /> <br />The Public Works Director replied that should be completed by June 1st. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath commented that he would love to see a trail connection over the freeway, <br />providing connection from east to west in the community. <br /> <br />The Public Works Director commented that there is a pedestrian bridge in the works, across 35E, <br />noting that the City recently received additional engineering grant funds from MnDOT this <br />week. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath referenced the Labore Road trail and asked if that has been designated as a <br />west/north side trail. <br /> <br />The Public Works Director confirmed that to be true. He noted the public engagement that has <br />occurred and noted that once there are additional funds received, they will progress that project. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hipp commented that she will be doing an interview of a Pioneer Park neighbor <br />in the coming week. She thanked the Recreation Coordinator for the great work she has done in <br />her position. She stated that she looks forward to the Sap Run and enjoyed participating in the <br />volunteer clean up and planting events. She stated that she continues to research for art in the <br />park with Commissioner Churcher, noting that the youth connections that Commissioner <br />Churcher has have been amazing. She stated that they do have a trial proposed that could <br />formally come before the Commission at the next meeting. She provided a brief overview of the <br />art in the park concept. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mui suggested a kickoff day for the concept. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath suggested having the tie in to the community/artists. He noted that this is a great <br />concept. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hipp commented on different ways the program could evolve to different groups <br />and age groups. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath confirmed that this item will be on the next agenda. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mui provided an update on the recent work of the Wayfinding Subcommittee, <br />presenting a design concept. He recognized the work Commissioner Williams has been doing to <br />research information. <br />
