CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION #2024-10-117 <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CRITICAL CORRIDORS <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada’s Sidewalk and Trail Master Plan shows significant gaps <br />in pedestrian amenities in the area of Rice Street and Demont Avenue; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada has a critical need of pedestrian amenities and sidewalk on <br />Rice Street from Demont Avenue north to County Road C; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada has a critical need of pedestrian amenities and sidewalk on <br />Demont Avenue between Rice Street and the trail connection at Lakeshore Drive; and <br />WHEREAS, Rice Street is located in an area that consists of low-and-moderate income residents <br />in Little Canada and a sidewalk would help safely connect residents of the area to commercial <br />areas and other sidewalk and trail systems in Little Canada; and <br />WHEREAS, Reuter Walton is building a 160-unit apartment building at Rice Street and Demont <br />Avenue which will increase the need for pedestrian connectivity and additional sidewalks in this <br />area by adding additional residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey County Critical Corridors grant program provides grant funding to <br />boost connectivity between housing, jobs, retail, services and transportation; to create more <br />compact, walkable environments; to enhance pedestrian access and safety in connection with <br />redevelopment; and to support vibrant business districts. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City of Little Canada City Council <br />fully supports the Critical Corridors grant application to fund the proposed pedestrian amenities <br />and sidewalk connectivity improvements in the area of Rice Street and Demont Avenue. <br />Adopted by the Council this 9th day of October, 2024. <br />_____________________________ <br />Thomas Fischer, Mayor <br />Attest: ___________________________________ <br />Christopher Heineman, City Administrator
