i~tINUTES

Crty Council
(Cont d.)
January 24, 19P30
hir. Nielson pointed out that ti~is fence height requirement is
cross-referenced in the traffic vis~ibil'ity section of the Ordinance.
Mayor Nanson questioned the point under the fence requirements
that regulates the fence around tennis courts. P~ayor Hanson asked
what about the tennis court that may be in someone's front yard.
The Ordinance provides fora chain link fence around a tennis court
not higher than ten feet.
Mr. Nielson stated that the wording could be changed to not permit
a tennis court in a required front yard or side yard set back.
The Attorney questioned why a chain link fence was being required
around a tennis court. Parks stated that a chain link fence is
very costly.
Mayor fianson asked why the fence section addresses fencing around
tennis courts, but doesn't address fencing around svrimming pools.
Nanson suggested that this subject be addressed in the section covering
accessory uses. Fahey commented that it should be cross-referenced
in this section on fences.
Mr. Nielson stated that he would do this and would also broaden 'the
chain link fence requirement around tennis courts. hlielson stated
that he will try to come up with a general term that includes more
than chain link fences.
Council agreed that the 3 1/2 foot maximum for a fence in a front
yard was a good ideas
Nielson stated that any reference to eight (3) feet in this section
on fences should be changed to six and one-half (6 1/2) feet.
hJielson stated that he also provided for requiring a collapsable
section in a fence for access by emergency vehicles, if there vras
no other access available.
IVielson stated that the word "width" in the second line of b.(1) on
page 17 should be changed to "depth". fJielson also stated that
the words "Planning Commission and" would be eliminated from 6. on
page 17 as previously suggested.
Mayor Hanson pointed out that on page 19 under fV. the Ordinance
prohibits unlicensed vehicles in yards. Mayor lianson stated that
some people restore cars, and the way the Ordinance is written
these cars could not be parked on the property. The Planner asked
how this could be regulated, how would 'the City know if the car
was actually being restored, or the property owner was just
claiming this. Councilman Fahey stated that the cars being restored
could be licensed, and then there would be no problem. Planson
pointed out that some cars are just used for parts, and the oavners
would not want to license them.
Pa9P
