MINUTES <br />City Council <br />February 11, 1981 <br />~orth Mr. Phil Saari of the North Suburban Achievement Center appeared before <br />Suburban the Council. The Center is asking for a building code variance so that <br />Achievement they can conduct a pre-school class in the lower level of the Qld Little <br />Center Canada Schoo1 building until July. At that time the Center is moving its <br />operation to another 1ocation. <br />P~r. Fahey expressed concern about fire safety as there was no outside <br />exit from this room in the lower leve1. Fahey stated that the City <br />cannot violate the building code where it might cause a hazard to public <br />safety. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that he could not support this request. Fors6erg <br />commented that if something happened to these children, he would feel <br />terribte about it. <br />Mr. Saari informed the Council that this is only a temporary request and <br />there is an exit right outside the door and up the stairs. <br />Forsberg felt the City should not deviate from the State Building Code. <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its acloption: <br />RESOLUTION M0. II1-2-69 - DENYING THE OCCUPAMCY PERMIT <br />FOR THE NORTH SUBURQAN ACFIIEVEMENT CENTER FlS REQUESTED <br />BY MR. PHIL SAARI <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Fahey. <br />Pyes (5) Scalze, Fahey, Hanson, Forsberg, Nardini. <br />Nayes (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 7, Page 42, <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that the City's Building Inspector has declared that <br />the lower levet of this building cannot be used for younger children. <br />Forsberg also commented that there is only one exit out of the bui1ding <br />from the lower level. <br />Mr. Fahey informed Mr. Saari that there is a Uni~orm Quilding Code <br />Appeals Committee that he could contact to get a waiver. <br />Mayor Hanson stated that Mr. Saari could also try to get a waiver from <br />the State Fire Marshal7. <br />Street Grid The Engineer presented to the Council a street grid layout for the area <br />Payne Ave. of North Payne Flvenue. The Engineer also commented that there should <br />Area be another street out to LaDore Road. <br />Mr. Sophie and Mr. Peterson, property owners 9n the area, presented to <br />the Council a plan they laid out for the development of their property. <br />Mr. Fahey commented that he was not in favor of the City putting in any <br />improvements when there are only two property owners invo1ved. <br />Mayor Hanson suggested that the Engineer look at Mr. Sophie's and Mr. <br />Peterson's plan for his information. <br />Paae -10- <br />
