MINUTFS
City Council
February 3~ ~982
Glanzer conunented that the sewer budget picks up a lot of costs of
other things in the'City because it generates revenue,
Mayor Hanson stated that because something is thrown against the sewer
budget does not mean it is spent against sewer. It is charged here
because the sewer budget is a revenue producing fund.
The City Clerk stated that sewer is the only money-maker the City has,
Rnger Glanzer pointed out that mobilehomes a-a~ uka~,rged
75~ of the sewer rate that a single family }~ome is charped.
Apartments are charged £or sewer according to their water usage.
Mayor Hanson asked if this app:Lied to condominiums that are converted.
G1an2er repl.ied that it did.
Mr. Forsberg and Mrs. Nardini cosnmented that the ordinsnce should be
changed so that mobilehdmes are charged the same as a single family
home.
Glanzer cormnented that the additional revenue generated by increasing
the sewer rate for mobilehomes to 100% of the rate will not generate
enough to make the di£ference. Glanzer informed the Council that
he is suggesting a sewer increase of $4 per quarter from $15 per quarter
to $19. However, the City co~il.d 'xeep the service charge the same i£
the City charged everyone in the City for the maintenance of the water
system. If not, Glanzer recommended that the service charge be increased
from $6 to $9 per quarter for a water customer.
Mayor Iianson commented that the City~s costs are ~~ising and cited
the example of just the electricity needed to operate a li~t station.
Glanzer also recommended that the sewer and water departments be
combined because in the end it costs the City time and money to separate
the two departments and everything ends up in the same place anyway.
I~Irs. Scalze co~nented that until the City is fully watered she cannot
see that this cou:l.d be done.
Council action on the proposed sewea and water budgets for 1982 will
be taken at the February 10 Council meeting.
Additional The City Clerk is requesting authorization for additional part-time
Ot£ice Help heJ.p in the City o£f9.ce.
Mrs. 1lardini suggested that pexhaps the City could look into the
possibility of getting a high school student in to do the filing
and copy-making.
iYirs. Scalze agreed that the City o£fice staf£ could use additional help.
Page -7-
