Tn 1.973 when thi.s study wae undeetalcen, the decision <br />was made to provide a connect=i_on point Co Li.ttle Canada at County <br />F:oad ]3. <br />The three plans consi.derect for Chc Lalce Gervai.s :inter.cepCOr ~aere as <br />follows: Pirst would be to Qo across '3eam Avenue and connece i.nCo <br />tlighway 61 1i.ne. Thi.s was technically incorrect as there was not. <br />Che capaciCy to accommodate long-range neecls and was a couple o.f <br />mi.ll.i.on doll.ar.s mor.e exnensi.ve. 'Che second plan was to ~.i.ntercept the. <br />ex:i_stin~; i_nterceptor on the north side of: I.i.tCl.e Canada Road and <br />arouncl t.he north s~ide o.f: the lalce. There were numerous probl.ems wi.Ch <br />t:hi.s plan. The route would be l.ony; and more ex~en:>e. Prom an <br />envi.roivnental sCandpoi.nt there would be problems ~o:ing arounct the <br />enti.re north si.de of Che lake. The, thirci plan i.s the one bei.ng <br />di.scussed and was deci.ded upon i.n 19£30. 'Chere are only a Eelo rn~i.nor <br />ch~nge, mnde i.n the 1.9f30 pl.an. <br />T'11e deci.si.on rnade on ti:e three plans di.d not only involve cost, <br />although plan 3 i.s the least expensi.ve, buC a7so consi.der.ed the <br />inconverii.ence f.actor and the techni.cal pr.~oUlems. <br />Mrs. Scalze asked i.f: it were ever consi.dered to ~;o alon~; tk~e f.ree~aay <br />ri.ght-oE-wzy ancl across on Highway 36. Mr. Ringrose replied that <br />th~is was never consider_ed i.n ~ f.ormal way because of the grade oP <br />the ground along ehe f.reewey woul.d malce it i.mposs~ible. Mr. Ri.n~;rose <br />steited thaC sewers must fol.l.oo~ Chc natural low p,round. Mr. Ri.ngrose <br />sCated thaC Chi.s sewer must be the J.owesr. sewer i.n the City. <br />Ringrose stated that along the freeway the constructi.on woul.d have <br />to be tunnel constructi.on for Che enti.re length. <br />Mrs. Scalze asked tYie cosC of tkiis type of construction, t9r. 13ingrose <br />est:imated the cost at about $1,000 Per foot. R:ingrose e~stimated the <br />projec~ cvould cost about $50,000,000 i£ :it tootc the route sugp,esee~l <br />by Scal.ze. <br />Mr. Ri.ngrose i.nformed Che Council that Che recommendati.on to go alori, <br />tk~e shore of. Lalce Gervai_s eli.m:inated about 1.,000 feeC of. tuimel.ing <br />and thus the project should cost about $1,000,000 less. Ringrose <br />staY.ed that the l.akeshore may cr.eate some short-term probl.ems and <br />i.nconvenience.
