STAFF REPORT <br />TO:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br />FROM:Steve Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director <br />Laura Linehan, Community Relations Manager <br />DATE:December 18, 2024 <br />RE:2025 Parks and Recreation Commission & Chair Appointments <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />A motion to appoint Mike Mui and Taylor Toumie to 3-year terms from 2025-2027 and appoint a Parks <br />and Recreation Commission Chair for 2025. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The term of office for Mike Mui will expire on December 31, 2024. Additionally, Commissioner Peter <br />Schletty has reached his three three-year term limit. At this time, there are two three-year terms to fill. <br />The city received a letter requesting a reappointment from Mike Mui, and one new a p p l i c a t i o n was <br />received. The one new applicant was interviewed by a Parks and Recreation Commission interview <br />committee consisting of Mayor Tom Fischer, Council Member Dave Miller, Chair Horwath, and Parks <br />and Recreation Director Steve Anderson. The interview committee was very impressed with Mr. <br />Tuomie and is ultimately recommending Taylor Tuomie for appointment. <br />Taylor Tuomie has been a resident of Little Canada for over two and a half years. Taylor is an Associate <br />Program Manager who is passionate about walkability, bike-ability, sustainability, and wildlife. <br />Specifically, he hopes to bring more live music events for residents of all ages. <br />Please also note that City Code Chapter 2501, Parks and Recreation Commission, calls for the mayor to <br />make a recommendation for the Parks and Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Fischer will make that <br />recommendation at Wednesday’s meeting, with the Council making the actual appointment. The <br />Commission will select its Vice Chair at its first meeting in January. <br />INTERVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION <br />The consensus of the interview committee is that Mike Mui should be reappointed to a three-year term, <br />and Taylor Tuomie should be appointed to a three-year term. <br />APPRECIATION FOR OUTGOING COMMISSIONER <br />Staff would like to thank Commissioner Peter Schletty for the nine years he spent serving on the Parks <br />and Recreation Commission. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The interview committee recommends a motion to appoint Mike Mui and Taylor Tuomie to three-year <br />terms from 2025-2027. The interview committee also recommends a motion to appoint a Park and <br />Recreation Commission Chair in 2025.
