Robert Voto
Mrs. Kathleen Glanzer
Mr. Donald Tarnowski reported that it has been reported that if
Hauser Communications purchases Group W Cable, services are likely
to be cut and prices increased.
Tarnowski asked the Council its feelings on municipal ownership
of Cable TV by a consortium of cities.
Tarnowski also outlined for the Council the numbers of Little Canada
residents purchasing cable. Tarnowski reported that Little Canada
is second in penetration in the ten city group, but lowest in complaints
received from the cities in the group.
Tarnowski reported that there are many possibilities in municipal
ownership and asked if he should take a positive approach to this
possibility.
Tarnowski reported that the Northwest Cable Comnission has first
right-of-refusal for the purchase of Group W. However, once a
purchase figure is determined, the Commission only has 60 days in
which to act. Tarnowski reported that the cities interested in
purchasing the system can form a consortium and float a bond for
the purchase.
Tarnowski recommended that the idea be pursued.
Blesener reported that he was only interested in municipal ownership
if a consortium was formed.
Nardini felt that the idea should be pursued, but with no commitment
on the part of the City to purchase.
Page -1-
