MINUTES <br />City Council <br />April 22, 1987 <br />Pending RESOLUTION ~10. 87-4-173 - INSTRUCTING THE <br />Legislation CITY CLERK TO ADVISE THE CITY'S LEGISLATORS <br />(Cont.) THAT THE CITY IS OPPOSED TO THE TAX BILL <br /> LIMITING CITY LEVIES TO 3% AS WELL AS THE <br /> TAX BILL PROPOSING THAT CITIES PAY THE 6% <br /> SALES TAX <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. Blesener. <br />Ayes (5) Fahey, Blesener, Collova, LaValle, Scalze. <br />Nays (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 187. <br />Mr. Roger Worner of the School District has sent a letter to the City <br />requesting that the City oppose Senate Bill #583 and reporting that <br />the School District is also in opposition of this Bill. <br />Scalze reported that it was her understanding that the bill was an <br />attempt to equalize educational funding around the State and would <br />decrease foundation aids for the City's school district. <br />Fahey felt that based on the experitise of Mr. Worner in this area, <br />the City should support the School District's position. <br />Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-4-174 - SUPPORTINf ROGER <br />WORNER S LETTER OPPOSING SENATE BILL #583 <br />AND INSTRUCTING THE CITY CLERK TO SEND A <br />LETTER TO THE CITY'S LEGISLATORS STATING SUCH <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mr. LaValle. <br />Ayes (4) Blesener, LaValle, Collova, Fahey. <br />Nays (1) Scalze. <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears in Resolution Book No. 17, Page 188. <br />Workshop Mr. Fahey reported that the Economic Development Committee has met <br />Meeting with Pat Pelstring regarding the possibility of putting together an <br />Economic Development Corporation. <br />Fahey felt that a workshop meeting should be scheduled to discuss <br />this matter as well as the possibility of acquiring property in <br />the Centerville Road area for ballfields. <br />Page -34- <br />
