MINUTES <br />City Council <br />June 10, 1987 <br />Flwarding ~9r. John Louma, representing Super Cycle, Inc., appeared before the <br />Bid For Council with regard to the bid Super Cycle submitted to provide <br />Curbside curbside recycling services in the City of Little Canada. <br />Recycling <br />Fahey asked if the types of containers to be used has been determined. <br />Agenda <br />Item Mo. 5 Louma replied that the type of container has not been determined, <br />and pointed out that the County has allocated $2,000 for containers <br />and the City will have to determine how to best use this money. <br />The City Clerk reported that the City advertised for bids and Super <br />Cycle is the only bidder for curbside recycling that responded. <br />Louma reported that his firm is providing curbside recycling in 15 <br />cities, including P9inneapolis, St. Louis Park, Fridley, Plymount <br />n correctio n and St. Paul and also o rat~i qthe recycling station on Rice Street. <br />Res. no. 87-6-270 Fahey asked if it will be possible to get the program off-the-ground <br />by July 1. <br />Louma replied that it was and pointed out that it is the City's <br />responsibility for making residents aware of the program. <br />Scalze asked if the City is reimbursed for the monthly fee it will <br />need to pay for this service. <br />The City Clerk replied that the City will be reimbursed from the <br />County through a grant program they have in effect. <br />The Public Works Superintendent reported that the contract with <br />Super Cycle is contingent upon the City's receipt of County funding, <br />which is in the form of a grant program that will run for at least <br />two years. The City has received approval for a grant for the first <br />year and will need to reapply for the grant for the second year. <br />It is the recommendation of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee that <br />the bid of Super Cycle be awarded. <br />Mr. Qlesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION N0. 87-6-247 - AWARDING THE BID <br />OF SUPER CYCLE, INC. FOR CURBSIDE RECYCLING <br />SERVICES IN THE CITY AND APPROVING THE <br />CONTRACT BETWEEN SUPER CYCLE AND THE CITY OF <br />LITTLE CANADA FOR RECYCLING SERVICES AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN <br />THE CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mrs. Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) Blesener, Scalze, Collova, LaValle, Fahey. <br />Nays (0). <br />Resolution declared adopted. <br />This resolution appears ~n Resolution Book No. 17, Page 266. <br />Page -2- <br />
