MINUTES
City Council
Feb. 24, 1988
Minutes
(Cont.)
Fina
Serve
CUP
Agenda
Item No. 5
RESOLUTION N0. 88-2-57 - APPROVING THE
PIINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 10, 1988 WORKSHOP
MEETING AS CORRECTED
The for•egoing r•esolution was duly seconded by Mr~s. Scalze.
Ayes (4) Blesener•, Scalze, Fahey, Collova.
Nays (0).
Resolution declar•ed adopted.
This r•esolution appears in Resolution Book No. 19, Page 61.
Fahey opened the Public Hear~ing to consider~ the application of FinaSer~ve,
Inc. for• a conditional use per•mit to r•edevelop their~ existing fuel
station site at 2240 Rice Str•eet with the r•emoval of the existing
building and r•eplacement of it with new str•uctur•e suited for• the sale
of gasoline and convenience gr•ocer•y sales and accessor~y car~ wash
str•uctur•e.
Fahey noted that the Planning Commission r•ecommended appr•oval of the
CUP subject to the conditions as outlined in the Planner's report
dated February 10, 1988. The Planner is also recommending approval.
There was no one pr•esent fr~om the gener~al public wishing to comment
on this CUP r~equest.
Scalze asked if the new str•uctur•e would be closer~ to Rice Str•eet than
the exi sti ng str~uctur•e.
Mr•. Jer•r~y McLaughlin, r•epr•esenting FinaSer•ve, r•eplied that the new
str~uctur•e woul d be moved back fur~ther~ fr•om Ri ce Str•eet to pr~ovi de
r~oom for~ stacking islands. McLaughlin pointed out that the FinaSer•ve
r~equest meets City Code r•equir•ements.
Scalze felt the plan was an impr•ovement, noting that ther~e would be
only one access fr•om Rice Str•eet and that access would be wider• than
the pr•esent accesses.
Scalze also assur•ed FinaSer~ve that the City has no intentions to close
Viking Dr~ive, and Scalze did not anticipate that such a closing would
occur.
Blesener~ asked the size of the convenience stor•e oper•ation.
McLaughlin r~eplied that the amount of iner•chandize would be incr~eased
over what FinaServe presently has. Tom Becker, representing Fina
Ser•ve, indicated that FinaSer~ve would not be as lar•ge an oper•ation as
a Tom Thumb, for~ instance. Becker• also requested a 24-hour• oper~ation.
Mr~s. Scalze intr•oduced the following r•esolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 88-2-58 - CLOSING THE PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE FINASERVE, INC. CUP REQUEST
Page -2-
