Steve Gr~i ttman <br />Fahey r•epor•ted that no action is necessar~y on the minutes of the April 12, <br />1989 meetinq since those minutes are not yet ready at this time. <br />Fahey reported that at the request of the Fire Department the Council held <br />a workshop meetinp on April 18th to discuss concerns with reqard to the <br />existing Fir•e Hall. Fahey r~eported that the Fire Hall was constructed in <br />the earl.y 1940's. As part of maintenance of the hall, periodic inspections <br />ar•e made and dur•ing a r~ecent inspection, it was found that the floor~ of the <br />east bay of the Fire Hall is over-stressed by 100%. The Fire Department has <br />moved two tr•ucks out of the east bay. The r•epor•t inciicates that a new slab <br />and additional reinforcement is needed in the basement. This r~einfor•cement <br />would make a portion of the basement unusable, with Fahey pointinca out that <br />the basement is used for recreational purposes. The cost of the slab and <br />reinfor•cement would be $43,200. <br />Fahey also r•epor•ted that the Fir•e Chief has indicated that the r•oof of the <br />Fir•e Depar•tment is too low for• the new-style equipment. Fstimated cost of <br />raising the roof is $40,000, which does not include wideninq bay doors antl <br />other necessary improvements. <br />Fahey also pointed out that the location of the Fir•e Hall may be unsuitable <br />outlininq existinq par•king pr•oblems. <br />Fahey reported that the City is currently studyinp the expansion of City <br />Hall, and Fahey suqqested that in conjunction with that study, the future <br />needs of the Fire Oepar•tment be looked at as well. <br />Fahey pointed out that the Council r•ecentlydiscussed the establishm~nt oF a <br />Paae -1- <br />
