STAFF REPORT
TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council
FROM: Steven Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: January 8, 2024
RE: 2886 Centerville Road Alternative Use – LCFD Training
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED
Make motion to designate the house at 2886 Centerville Road as a temporary training site for
LCFD training.
BACKGROUND
The parcel at 2886 Centerville Road was purchased by the city in early 2024. The house was
previously rented out for many years as a single family home. With the house now being vacant,
the city investigated what financial commitments would be necessary to renovate it as a rental
property. The house is too far in disrepair to make this venture worthwhile. The house currently
sits on the parcel earmarked for a future community building and will eventually be demolished.
The Little Canada Fire Department has showed interest in having space to conduct hands on
training out of. With no other function available for the house before it’s scheduled demolition,
the city sees value in having Fire Department use the facility for their training. All training
conducted would not warrant any abatement as live burning or tearing down of the structure
would not be permitted. Trainings would include use of a smoke machine to simulate real life
scenarios including search & rescue, hose advancements and mastering fire suppression
techniques.
BUDGET IMPACT
No financial impact to the city.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS
Make motion to designate the house 2886 Centerville Road as a temporary training site for
LCFD training.
ATTACHMENTS
Map of 2886 Centerville Road
