As a fully developed community, its existing homes will
continue to make up most of its housing supply. This section examines the quantity, types, and
characteristics of the city’s housing stock to identify both opportunities and challenges.

Little Canada has approximately 5,100 living units 1, fewer than any reference community in
Ramsey County except Arden Hills.
Figure 9 – Total Living Units

Source – Ramsey County Open GIS | Collected 11/15/2024

Housing Types
Nearly 50% of all housing units in Little Canada are in multifamily buildings (condos, co-ops,
apartments, etc.), a significantly higher proportion than in any other reference community in
Ramsey County.

About 10% of homes in Little Canada fall into the 'Missing Middle' category—duplexes,
triplexes, and townhomes—which provide an alternative between single-family homes and larger
multifamily developments. An additional 10% of homes are manufactured housing units. The
remaining 34% of housing units in Little Canada are detached single-family homes.

1 Living Unit = A separate living space that can be occupied by one household, such as a single-family home,
apartment, or other residential dwelling.

3,544 5,081
17,411
5,309
17,612
12,218
6,028
11,182
-
4,000
8,000
12,000
16,000
20,000
Arden Hills Little Canada Maplewood North Saint
Paul
Roseville Shoreview Vadnais
Heights
White Bear
Lake
