MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 22, 1991
SAOULDER Council reviewed the shoulder paving agreement that was
PAVING submitted by the County covering the City's share of
AGREEMENT costs in paving shoulders on County Road B. The Public
Works Superintendent has recommended that the paving of
these shoulders is unnecessary since this is not an
area where there would be bike or pedestrian traffic.
The City Administrator reported that Public Works has
been informed that the City of Maplewood does not plan
to participate in the paving project. Final word on
their decision has not yet been received.
Scalze pointed out that the cost is not very much, and
suggested that the shoulder may connect with future
trails and would be utilized in the future.
It was estimated that the cost to the Grieman property
would be approximately $1,500. Council asked that it
be determined whether the City of Maplewood will
participate in the project given the low cost. If so,
then Mr. Grieman stated that he would not oppose the
improvement.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 91-5-178 - INSTRUCTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR AND PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT TO
DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE CITY OF MAPLEWOOD WILL
PARTICIPATE IN THE SHOULDER PAVING PROJECT ON COUNTY
ROAD B
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Blesener, LaValle, Collova, Hanson, Scalze.
Nays (0).
Resolution declared adopted.
LIQUOR Council reviewed liquor license renewals for the
LICENSE license period July 1, 1991 through June 30, 1992. It
RENEWALS noted in the Council's review of the Sheriff's
Department's report of incidents at each liquor
establishment, that the number of incidents at Saxon
Lanes/Mingles is high. It was noted that last year the
former Mayor, City Administrator, and a representative
of the Sheriff's Department met with management of
Saxon Lanes in an attempt to work out solutions to the
high number of incidents. Scalze noted that in the
past when incidents have been high at other liquor
establishments in the City, the City has required
on-site guards as a condition of liquor license
renewal. It was the consensus of the Council to table
action on the Saxon Lanes liquor license renewal to
Page 17
