MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
March 25, 1992
Graczyk replied that building operational costs have
not yet been analyzed.
Graczyk reported that the Fire Department has
identified some additional capital improvement needs.
One is a lift to do some service work in the Fire
Station. Estimated cost is $3,500. Graczyk suggested
that the lift will pay for itself since without it the
Department would have to contract some of this work.
The Administrator suggested that if the lift is
movable, it might be something that could be used in
washing windows at City Hall.
Another capital improvement item is an air compressor
to fill the Department's air tanks. One of the
Maplewood fire stations is selling a used compressor
for $1,500. However, the air tank crew does not feel a
used compressor is the answer. Maplewood is purchasing
a new compressor for $17,000. Graczyk reported that
the Fire Department will be studying this issue and
coming up with some cost figures for the type of
equipment that will fill the Department's needs.
Currently, the Department has an oxygen service that
fills its air tanks at a cost of less than $1,000 per
year. However, the service does not fill the tanks to
the maximum, which would give the firemen an additional
4 or 5 minutes of air. The Department currently has
1/2 hour tanks; but with the number of apartment
buildinqs in the City, the Department may want to
eventually go to hour tanks.
Boss reported that there were three occasions last year
when the Department had to call for additional help
because of needed air. Boss further reported that use
of air tanks is up about 50% over the last five years
because of additional mandates.
NEW TRUCK Graczyk reported that the first payment was due on the
UPDATE new fire truck which has been ordered. That payment
was for $109,000. The next payment will be due
sometime in April for $87,000.
Boss reported that anticipated delivery of the truck is
August 1st, and final payment is due at that time.
Page 2
