The
WORKSHOP Administrator reported that the City is required to
certify its maximum levy to the County by September
15th. In previous years, the Legislature had
established levy limits for cities, however, these
limits have been lifted and the Council must establish
a maximum levy for the City. The Administrator
reported that the City will hold its Truth in Taxation
Hearing sometime in December. The Administrator also
pointed out that once the maximum levy is established,
the Council has the option of reducing that levy
through reductions in the budget, however, the levy
cannot be increased. The Administrator anticipated
that once the maximum levy is established, there will
be more meetings of the Council to fine-tune the budget
and get costs at a level the City feels proper for
1993.
Page 1
