Workflow Management the department has grown more efficient and the Director anticipates getting more technology to make processes, record keeping and providing services more efficient. The Department has also been impacted for about the last year with having an employee who is out on long-term leave. The City Council has approved a temporary staff person to help fill this void and the Department waits to hear if this employee will be returning to work at the City. If this individual does not return to work, this position will need to be filled at the full-time status and City staff would like retain would like to retain the current part- time staff person for Public Works. Comparing the staff size of Public Works with the other comparison communities based on total area results in the following: Little Canada 4.48 sq miles 6 public works staff (1 on LTD) Vadnais Heights 8.24 sq miles 10 public works staff Arden Hills 9.65 sq miles 12 public works staff Roseville 13.84 sq miles 20 public works staff Maplewood 17.99 sq miles 32 public works staff Shoreview 12.67 sq miles 28 public works staff Public Works will benefit from some of the Study recommendations in the following ways: 1.the Community Engagement Director will take a leadership role in assisting the department to explore new automated technology, software and research vendors. 2.utilizing, as needed, an additional Customer Service Specialist, when available for projects 3.20 hour Parks Maintenance position to assist Public Works as needed Administration- Little Canada is very lean when compared to the other city Administrations departments as shown below: Little Canada 3 Administration staff Vadnais Heights 4.5 Administration staff Arden Hills 6 Administration staff (not including Permit Technician) Roseville 8 Administration staff Maplewood 13 Administration staff Shoreview 11 Administration staff Both Arden Hills and Vadnais Heights are the closest in terms of population and all comparison communities have an Assistant City Administrator or an Assistant to the City Administrator.
