MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
organizations on Monday, and he did. Short reported
that he brought that proposal to City Hall, and asked
to see the proposal from TCF. Short stated that TCF
took the Mover's Warehouse proposal and submitted one
lower.
Bob Matson, NSYA, reported that at a meeting with TCF
it was decided not to discuss the Mover's Warehouse
proposal, but rather the letter of intent submitted to
the organizations by TCF several days prior to the
Mover's Warehouse proposal being submitted.
Marty Krogman, TCF, reported that he never received a
copy of the Mover's Warehouse proposal. Krogman also
pointed out that there was a proposal from TCF which
was signed back in December, and the new proposal is
very similar to that one.
The City Administrator acknowledged that Short asked
for a copy of the TCF proposal on both Monday and
Tuesday of this week, however, the City was not in
possession of that proposal. The Administrator
reported that he informed Short that to his knowledge
no one on the City Council or staff has received a copy
of TCF's proposal.
Slipy reported that if he were TCF, he would be doing
exactly what they are doing, and if he were one of the
charities he would be looking for a lower rent cost.
Slipy reported that Mover's Warehouse has laid their
costs on the table, and also pointed out that there are
a lot of other factors besides rent that are causing
compliance problems for the charities. Slipy asked
what Mover's Warehouse has done to justify losing the
bingo hall license.
Scalze pointed out that it has been no secret that the
organizations have had a problem with the rent, and to
insinuate that in the past couple of weeks this issue
has come up or that Mover's Warehouse has been caught
off guard, is inaccurate. Scalze reported that the
City has heard a lot of ideas about how the charities
could do better if located somewhere else.
Slipy felt the organizations could do a lot better if a
number of their costs were brought in line. However,
the focus has been on rent. Slipy reported that
Mover's Warehouse has been told that a per session rent
of $300 per session would make all the difference in
the world. Based on one night per week, that would
result in a savings of $136 per week. Slipy felt it
was hard to take seriously the comments that this
savings would make a big difference.
