MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 26, 1994 <br />needs can probably be met with a less expensive piece <br />of equipment. Warranties on these types of vehicles <br />are typically 1 to 2 years. The Superintendent also <br />pointed out that there are local merchants who would be <br />likely to submit a bid on this type of equipment. <br />LaValle asked if the 14-year-old Cushman had any <br />trade-in value. The Superintendent was not sure. When <br />the replacement purchase is further along in the <br />process, those details would be determined. <br />Hanson asked the age of the City's other Cushman. The <br />Superintendent replied that it was 6 years old and he <br />did not anticipate replacement for 5 or 6 years. <br />Morelan asked if it were necessary to have two of these <br />vehicles. <br />The Superintendent felt it was, pointing out the amount <br />of parks that are maintained as well as the numbers of <br />summer help. The Superintendent reported that the <br />Cushman's are highly utilized. <br />Morelan questioned the road safety of the vehicles, and <br />suggested that Public Works inspect and equip the <br />vehicles as necessary with seat belts, etc. <br />The Superintendent reported that a new vehicle will <br />meet safety standards. The Superintendent commented <br />that the Cushman truckster had too much road speed for <br />his liking, and that other models had maximum road <br />speeds of just a few miles per hour. <br />The next capital improvement item reviewed was <br />refurbishing or replacement of the City's 21-year-old <br />vibratory asphalt roller. Estimated cost is $10,000. <br />The Superintendent reported that while the engine has <br />been replaced twice in this roller, it has never had a <br />major overhaul. The roller is used for a variety of <br />things such as patching streets, rolling sod, <br />compacting trails, and rolling infields. <br />Aanson asked if it would be better for the City to rent <br />a roller when it needs one. <br />The Superintendent estimated the cost of renting a <br />roller for a day at $100, and pointed out that rental <br />Page 2 <br />
